The 5-Hour Rule Used by Bill Gates, Jack Ma and Elon Musk
- gbacon 8y agoThe five-hour rule was coined by Michael Simmons, founder of Empact. The concept is wonderfully simple: No matter how busy successful people are, they always “set aside at least an hour a day (or five hours a week) over their entire career for activities that can be classified as deliberate practice or learning.” Simmons traces this phenomenon back to Ben Franklin. “Throughout Ben Franklin's adult life, he consistently invested roughly an hour a day in deliberate learning. I call this Franklin's five-hour rule: one hour a day on every weekday,” Simmons wrote.

It means focused time but during your reading best way to defuse is just close your eyes and ask yourself "does this make sense?". Why? Well this is a Darwin technique used in academia to find non intuitive insights while you are walking. Some people find reading boring from TV, YouTube video. But in my opinion videogame are the most distracting things that can compete with books. They all have same 4 aspects. First of all, they all can be winnable. A videogame and when you reach the end of the book. Second of all, videogame all have clear goals or missions. You can do the same just write your goals smartly. Third of all, they are novel challenging. Some videogame are so hard other so easy is boring. Usually the one in the middle you lose yourself in time. Before picking a good read get a glimpse from the summary. Pick what you like and also challenges you. And they all provide feedback that shape you. In books the best way to get feedback is just Recalling after each chapter. You'll find you recall the things you are used to so challenge yourself to go back.
