The East Cut name originated from a neighborhood nonprofit group in San Francisco that residents voted to create in 2015 to clean and secure the area. The nonprofit paid $68,000 to a “brand experience design company” to rebrand the district. [...] and one of the East Cut nonprofit’s board members is a Google employee.

- dilap 8y agoYeah, the top half of the article is all-but-lying to you, strongly implying that Google just created the name out of mid-air. Which is typical newspaper/NYT behavior.
- oldManRiver 8y agoI worked in the "east cut" apparently. Outside of the Leaning Tower of San Francisco I don't remember a lot of people living in the area. Maybe they were farther south.
