- tyrust 8y agoThat's such a dope picture.
- jacobush 8y agoVery Hackers. (The movie.)
- noonespecial 8y agoMine had one of those "plasma" Amber displays I got from sacrificing a Dolch luggable. People had a very hard time believing that all of those songs were "in the player". Feels like the dawn of history now. Good Lord I'm old.
- jasongill 8y agoThose orange gas plasma flat panel displays were my favorite - so perfectly readable and crisp. I went on eBay recently hoping you could just buy one, or even an old "portable" with a monochrome gas plasma, but I had a hard time finding anything. Wish someone still made these displays, even in just smaller sizes!
- girvo 8y agoI’m building an open source and open hardware version of the “Freewrite” [0] and would love a small LCD like that, but same thing: I can’t find one [0] https://getfreewrite.com https://getfreewrite.com
- noonespecial 8y agoThey were very fragile and burned in extremely quickly. They were also massively power hungry! Not surprising that there are none left. I'm not at all sad to have traded them in for even lousy LCD. But don't sweat it, OLED is a worthy replacement!
- craftyguy 8y ago> allows them to play music downloaded free on the internet I bet now you'd get a RIAA lawyer in your face before that newspaper hit your doorstep.
- neuralRiot 8y agoWhy? There's royalty free music on the internet.
