It's a terrible name. Many of these projects have nothing to do with the web (the three concrete examples cited were two filesharing protocols and one cryptocurrency, none of which are about serving websites). And it's awkward to say.
- Razengan 8y agoIt's bringing horrible flashbacks of when "blog" was forced upon us; an ugly, dumb-sounding term that I still try not to acknowledge. "D-net" might have been better.
- krapp 8y ago"Vlog" is even worse. It sounds like someone's about to vomit.
- MrEldritch 8y agoTry actually pronouncing "Dweb." Say it a few times. Really get that mouthfeel. "Vlog" almost sounds cool in comparison.

- falcolas 8y agoThere's no need to make it one syllable: de-web works well enough for me.
- MrEldritch 8y agoHonestly, after looking over it a few times, I figure "D-Web" is how it was probably intended to be pronounced anyway, and sounds fine.
- rapnie 8y agoIt's hard to come up with a well-sounding name that both conveys the concept of 'web' as well as 'distributed / decentralized'. Distrinet? Meshweb? Hmm..
- err4nt 8y agoWhat about "the mesh". Can be used interchangeably with "the cloud".
- rockybulwinkle 8y agoyeah i downloaded that album last night on the _dweeb_
- andyidsinga 8y agothat's exactly how I read dweb at first glance :)
- ken 8y agoThere's no pronunciation guide, so I assume it's pronounced just like "dweeb". Not awkward, but not exactly flattering, either.
