I've got an "older" Broadwell based X62 and it's simply a fantastic piece of equipment
- bubblethink 8y agoSupporting Windows properly is probably not that trivial. I don't know where seabios and tiano are wrt modem Windows support. Nobody ships Windows machines that run coreboot.
- IntelMiner 8y agoWindows support isn't an insurmountable obstacle. As long as the ACPI implementation works, Windows is (generally) quite happy to run on it Google's Chromebooks all run vanilla Coreboot, and if modded with SeaBIOS/Tiano, will happily boot and run Windows (though drivers can be troublesome)
- jacek 8y ago@IntelMiner are you using Linux? What is the battery life on this machine?
- IntelMiner 8y agoI run Gentoo on mine, and I get a typical battery life of 4-5 hours currently
- znpy 8y agowhat battery are you using? is it possible to use standard x200/x201 batteries (including extended capacity ones) ?
- newnewpdro 8y ago> I've got an "older" Broadwell based X62 and it's simply a fantastic piece of equipment What have you done to improve the original display and battery options? I had an SXGA+ modded x61s but it was still awful dim and the lack of new OEM replacement battery options sucked.
- IntelMiner 8y agoI chanced across an article that I cannot seem to find anymore unfortunately Someone had heavily modded an "original" display to fix the 50hz interpolation issues as well as kicking the brightness up
- newnewpdro 8y agoSo you're still using the original CCFL XGA screen? Yuck.
- 1996 8y agoThe mod is led backlighting, and you can use the higher res screen panel for that.
- newnewpdro 8y agoI've done the LED mod to an SXGA+ BOEHYDIS HV121P01-10* display. The results were mediocre at best. Color temp was off, LED pattern visible at the bottom edge, non-uniform brightness. The main advantage I found was the improved battery life, then the increased brightness though the colors were wrong. It's really disappointing there are still no modern 4:3 panels suitable for swapping into an X62.
