- angersock 8y agoBut profits and copyright you see! If we allow piracy like that to exist, how will the owners of the copyright be able to ensure that the works are kept accessible?!
- Cthulhu_ 8y agoI really hope there are a few people still out there that have the full catalog of what.cd archived and either keep it alive by sharing it in the darker recesses of the internet, or are able to secure it somewhere. There really needs to be a media museum, an international library of all that has ever been produced, from a hundred different recordings of the old composers to whatever crap your 15 year old neighbour is uploading to soundcloud.
- Fnoord 8y agoIf its anywhere like the scene and DCPP used to be then there's archivists who have the extremely rare content, including for example MP3.com rarities. A full archive is very convenient, but if you're a collector who's after certain rarities all it requires is a good network (or networking skills). Social network, and some bandwidth.
- voltagex_ 8y agoif you know where those MP3.com archivists hang out - a friend of mine is after a particular disc.
- crtasm 8y agoI believe Archive.org have at least all the FLAC rips + metadata from what.CD. Also there's https://interviewfor.red/ https://interviewfor.red/
- cup-of-tea 8y agoIt's nice to see that people still remember OiNK and what.cd. Of course, I know I can't be the only one who remembers, but I've never met someone in real life who does. Both shut down thanks to corruption in British and French police.
- dspillett 8y agowhat.cd didn't go dark all that long ago, did it? Or have I really not been paying attention again?
- satsuma 8y agotwo years ago, i think? i stopped torrenting music when i got a streaming subscription, because i discover music easier if it's streamed and i'm not enough of an audiophile to discern between 320kbps mp3 and flac.
