Why? I've always assumed the obsession with monospaced fonts in coding comes from terminals, which are monospaced for traditional reasons. I code in non-monospsaced fonts sometimes. I enjoy it. There are (for me) basically no downsides except occasional other coders wanting things "lined up" vertically, which I don't care about but enforce using a code formatter.
