Physical redundancy doesn't do much if your infrastructure is controlled by software (deployment, monitoring, scaling, pipelines for updating dependent services) that isn't well controlled. GCE and AWS have both suffered widespread connectivity issues due to deployments. Adversaries don't need to blow up data centers, they just need to modify the code used to provision, monitor, and control them.
