Etleap [ˈet-lēpˈ] is Hiring Senior Java Backend Developers About Us We started Etleap out of frustration with the exorbitant amounts of engineering work required to set up, maintain, and scale data pipelines for analytics. Our mission is to make it delightfully simple for data teams to create and maintain analytics infrastructure. We’re doing this by abstracting away the difficult parts, and creating a new kind of ETL user interface that enables the end user of data to integrate and transform data from any source. Our technology stack is Java-centric. For data processing, we are currently migrating from Cascading on Hadoop to Spark on Mesos. The backend is built using Play Framework and Dropwizard, with a rapidly increasing number of microservices. For continuous deployment we rely on Terraform, Ansible, Docker, and CircleCI. We are a customer-obsessed engineering team that values openness and being experimental. Brilliant assholes need not apply. Our investors include YCombinator, First Round Capital, and SV Angel. We recently raised our seed round of financing, and already enjoy seven figures revenue levels. About the Role This is a genuinely challenging job. Your code will not only have to work correctly, but also be intensely reviewed to ensure: it is as simple as it could be, it includes all the testing it should and no more, and it is easy extensible. Minutes later, it will be live in production, where it will be your responsibility to ensure it delivers to our customers’ expectations. The core of our application is complex, and thus your strength in understanding and debugging somebody else’s source is essential. We carefully straddle high quality work with merging code to production multiple times per day. While what’s most appreciated is your ability to learn quickly, we value that you have already solved similar technical challenges in your previous projects. We are committed to build San Francisco’s strongest backend team, with team members also in Europe and Latin America, which requires superlative communication skills. As our goal is increasing level of product-market fit, being technically competent is not sufficient--your understanding and caring for customers success is vital. About You You are up to the challenge if you: - Seek mastery in everything you do, and you are considered by your peers as the best Java developer they know, with deep experience successfully scaling code in production. - Multiply your team’s productivity, and are motivated to work with agile product specs that give you the freedom to express your engineering talent. - Believe in ensuring the quality of your work, and are fluent in the continuous integration/deployment toolchain . - Are passionate about data processing, as demonstrated by expertise in at least one of: SQL/NoSQL databases, Hadoop/Spark frameworks, Kafka/Kinesis streaming, schema evolution with Avro/Thrift/ProtocolBuffers. - Have previously worked in a startup and thrive in scrappiness. - Live or are willing to move within short commute of San Francisco (we sponsor visas). - Are down to earth and fun to be around.
