- mercer 8y agoI sort of disagree. In quite a number of discussions the general 'tone' is at the very least left or center-left. In others, it does seem more libertarian right. Generally though, I find a nice mix of viewpoints here that I don't find elsewhere in quite the same way, and I like how the unifying element seems to be a kind of geekiness, for better and worse. It often reminds me of the discussions I'd have with various nerd-groups I've been part of. Often very eclectic, often perhaps a bit too theoretical, but almost always interesting.
- majewsky 8y agoI'm on the left side of the political spectrum, and I find it fascinating when right-wingers spot "ultra-left bias" in forums that I find balanced or right-leaning.
- alliecat 8y agoYup. It does entertain me, especially as my own experience of HN is center-right at best.
- mercer 8y agoHN can be pretty schizophrenic. It often seems to switch depending on the topic, and topics where the various 'groups' collide can be very interesting (or frustrating). I like that kind of diversity as long as it doesn't lead to flamewars.

- majewsky 8y agoTrump is a tough call. For all I know, there is a decent chance he actually is a deplorable narcisstic idiot. It's a hypothesis that fits the evidence available to me. There are other hypotheses that do this as well. Re: refugee crisis, I haven't seen much about it on HN, so cannot comment here.
- s9w 8y agoMaybe your opinion on him is based on the only evidence you are allowed to see. Refugees kinda same. There's much less about it on HN, but when it's all rainbows whereas it's a disaster on par with a world war
