More likely she's not immediately attributing these stories to "dogs intentionally come to the aid of humans." People anthropomorphize pets to an enormous extent. One can imagine plenty of other reasons why a dog might e.g. alert the neighbors that their owner is in trouble ("I'm hungry and my owner isn't feeding me" is a very simplistic one off the top of my head). It's well worth being skeptical about.
