I've always been amused by police procedurals where they are like "it's 15 to life, but if you cooperate we can take the death penalty off of the table". I mean, I'm sure at the moment of death risk the ultimate FOMO kicks in, but in the abstract? The rest of my life in prison sounds a lot worse when it's a long life rather than a still-long-to-experience-but-overall-short one. Always felt like a terrible motivation tactic.
