This is truly fascinating. As an engineer working with autonomous driving, I've always been under the impression that sel-driving car research exploded after the 2005 DARPA Grand challenge.
It's embarrassing that I never knew about PROMETHEUS given that it was a €749m pan-European collaboration on autonomous driving.
