What are the downsides of this? Imagine the earth is getting warmer, but we have walls holding back melting ice. What is the implication to the earth of a warmer planet with lower sea level ? Historically, temperature of earth and sea level have been very correlated. What happens when we interfere with that? I am thinking about things like mass desertification, changing currents, etc.
