It has been just downright spiral for Scott Adams since that 2011 post.
His blogs for the past couple of years have just been shameless non-stop pandering to Trump and pretending about how he "gets it" and truly understands Trump's brilliance, and how he will explain it to us morons. Trump of course has changed his positions so often during those years that poor Scott has been reduced to a babbling idiot trying to explain the hidden brilliance of the latest sudden and half thought out 180 degree turn from his dear leader.
It all kind of dovetails with his (Adams') self described expertise in the art of persuasion. For Scott Adams, the "art of persuasion" means convincing someone to do something against his own interest and in favor of Adams' interest. Most people would call this cheating and manipulation, but Adams gives it a positive spin by referring to it as an art. Adams has pitched several of his startups utilizing the full blast of his self described "art of persuasion mastery", yet all of his startups have been failures despite the massive free publicity he can give them using the Dilbert platform.
Adams uses the "art of persuasion" concept to compliment Trump. Instead of a lying politician, Trump is apparently "a master persuader." Well if he is that, at least he is much more successful than Adams.
But of course I mostly ignored the blog posts, and just looked at the cartoons. I have been following dilbert cartoons since the late 90s and it is just too hard to stop. He smartly tried to keep his political babbling away from the cartoons. So I would mostly ignore the blogs except for a rare forays (maybe once per month) that would just piss me off. But last week I think the something really cracked in poor Scott's mind, and his troubled hatred filled subconscious started spilling all over the comic.
He had a comic sequence that started with an amusing joke, proceeded to some unusually nasty and pointless racism and then ended with multiple comic repetition of the idea that Dilbert (i.e., Scott Adams' alter ego) has a death wish. You can check it out yourself at dilbert.com. It all starts at the comic for monday, july 16.
I cannot help but feeling a little schadenfreude. It all makes sense, I think, the hatred towards humanity that he has shown in his worshiping of the "art of persuasion" and of Trump is really a manifestation of a hatred towards himself. What can a person that has spent the latter part of his life trying to perfect the "art" of cheating innocent people have to hope for than a quiet death?
But then later I feel guilty for feeling the above. Who am I to say that I want fall victim to depression either, even if I do think I am a better person than Scott Adams. And even if he is a bad person he has not committed any crimes that I know of, he has freedom of speech. I have a freedom to ignore him and not believe him (I doubt many people believe him) but that doesn't mean I should wish him misfortune.
Well either way I do hope Mr. Adams gets some help with counseling and suicide prevention. Last week's comics weren't comics they were a cry for help.
- adamiscool8 8y agoI find his blog posts often insightful and generally well-reasoned even if I disagree with the conclusion. This is a _lot_ of projection for a 3-panel comic arc lightly touching on cultural relativism. It’s interesting how between the traits of intelligence, rejecting conventional thinking, and self-confidence, anyone going beyond 2/3 faces this kind of dismissal.
