- squirrelicus 8y agoI enjoyed him talking about why he thought Trump was a "Master Persuader" (his words not mine), but when he started transitioning to just talking about his WhenHub startup thing I tuned out and haven't read him in two years.
- kneel 8y agoHis perspective on the election was pretty entertaining. Since then I've found his political commentary to be chock full of spin, guess I shouldn't be surprised.
- meowface 8y agoI think he may be a Trump surrogate masquerading as a Trump "explainer". He is pretty good at explaining some of Trump's actions and is generally a good writer, but I think he was heavily gunning for Trump from the start, despite claiming to be neutral. He may've even considered himself the "master persuader" all along: convincing a lot of people, even some smart people, that Trump is a masterful schemer whose "mistakes" are all carefully calculated 5D chess moves. Nearly everything he's written, both pre- and post-election, have been attempts to bend over backwards defending and rationalizing Trump's actions. I think he's now attempting to latch himself onto Kanye and help get him elected in the future. I would not be surprised if part of his motive is personal political power. Given his history of sockpuppetry and the way he talked about himself, it doesn't seem like a huge stretch.
- flyingcircus3 8y agoHe's been more vexing than any other 2016 election commentator, for me. Before coming out as pro Trump, he seemed very even handed in pointing out blatant marketing from both sides, and seemed to paint it in a negative light, as if saying whatever you believe your audience wants to hear is generally a bad thing. Fast forward to his fallout and audience shrinking by roughly half. Now he's still talking about the persuasion, and tricks of psychology. But when used for his causes, they are to be celebrated, conveniently. Yet they are still just as bad when others employ them as back in 2016. I don't know even where to begin rationalizing that. If you can't see that's where half your audience left you, I don't know what else there is to say.
