The biggest surprise to me was the golden spike. I go to Stanford and no one's mentioned that a major piece of American history is on display at Cantor.

- defen 16y agoScoble's short summary doesn't do justice to Leland Stanford's extremely interesting life - he lived in an age when the phrase "conflict of interest" didn't exist. He wasn't just Vice President of the Central Pacific Railroad - he was also governor of California! So you can imagine that he had some say in which California railroad would eventually link up to help form the Pacific Railroad!
- trevelyan 16y agoStanford has an amazing collection of pieces by Rodin, which are apparently all on exhibit now. Wonderful that the university keeps so much of his work on display... and for free too: http://events.stanford.edu/events/146/14601/ http://events.stanford.edu/events/146/14601/
