Thanks for the info, that's quite a lot less. I'm American but living in the EU where I was told by an Apple repair outfit over here that the topcase replacement would be something like 400-450 euro (so, roughly $500). I also noticed price differences of about $300 on the laptops themselves, if bought new and locally. What I'll probably do is wait til the rest of the fall lineup is announced, including the rumored "MBA replacement", to see what the prices are before buying one. Then I'll just use my current MB as backup.
