Inside Google's Venture Capital “Machine”
- zergarmy 8y agoThis reminds me of when companies like Valve say they are a completely self organized: It Is Never true. Google historically at its core had a very arrogant PHD style academic culture. Venture Capitalists also tend to have this same kind of arrogance and elitism except turned up several more notches. What they do to signal that they are special / smarter / better than anyone else is come up with narratives like this. We are Google Ventures so we are smarter than everyone else because we have magic AI algorithms to vet our investments. No they don’t. Every venture capitalist firm has models. You can put all this crap into excel macros and dress it up with AI big data verbiage but it’s all the same stuff. I garauntee you there is an arrogant and dictatorial human who gets to decide when and where Google invests in anything. This AI machine bull crap may fool the media and the general masses but it doesn’t fool me. It’s just arrogance signaling behavior, nothing to see here.
