- sverige 8y agoWell, it has a lot of definitions. I still think of it as a reaction to overproduced rock and disco from the 70s, but it has evolved a lot since then. Surely someone has put together an introductory listening list that is searchable. No idea if there's a scene anywhere these days. I rather doubt it, but you never know.
- Haydos585x2 8y agoSpotify has a couple of playlists that might help OP learn a bit more about the genre: The Road to Punk Rock: https://open.spotify.com/user/spotify/playlist/37i9dQZF1DWU0FBqUeZYeN?si=SdzK75uDQeWUxMAVLIRXIQ https://open.spotify.com/user/spotify/playlist/37i9dQZF1DWU0... These playlists are not really definitive of the genre but can at least give a broad range of styles, plus, they're fun to listen to.
- icebraining 8y agoSeems to lack any female punk / riot grrrl. To make up for that I suggest X-Ray Spex's classic Oh Bondage Up Yours! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYMObdOqcRg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYMObdOqcRg
- acomjean 8y agoI like the "late Risers Club" on MIT radio. 10am -12 EST. They stream and have archived shows. http://wmbr.org/www/sched-mul#show5756 http://wmbr.org/www/sched-mul#show5756 and http://laterisersclub.org/ http://laterisersclub.org/
- geoka9 8y agoDo you think The Road to Punk Rock playlist makes sense? It has some punk staples (Ramones, The Clash, etc.), but also blues, rock-n-roll, and even an old school country song.
- ChristianGeek 8y agoAs much as I love The Ramones, they’re pop punk, as is all but early Clash (whom I also love and saw live in 1982).
- bcgraham 8y agoOld joke. First kid asks, "What's punk?" Second kid kicks over a trash can, points at it, and says, "That's punk." First kid kicks over another trash can and asks, "Is that punk?" Second kid says, "No, that's trendy."
- rjbwork 8y agoAnother old joke: "What's punk? Punk's dead, man."
- scarecrowbob 8y agoI grew up with a bunch of crusty punks in the late 90s in the texas panhandle. Punk's not dead, it just smells that way.

- danieldk 8y agoI think you are looking for "Jazz is not dead, it just smells funny." - Frank Zappa, Bebop Tango ;)
- tnecniv 8y agoPunk died in 1958

- wuunderbar 8y agoSo punk is vandalism?

- mieseratte 8y agoBack when I first got into the punk scene I ended up asking this semi-infamous old-timer at my local punk dive "Just what the hell is punk, anyway?" "Something you don't want to be in prison." Really, it's whatever the fuck you want it to be and fuck anyone who tells you otherwise because they're definitely wrong, and that includes me right now telling you this. What is punk? Punk isn't.
- ikeboy 8y agoPunk is Zen
- 627467 8y agoPunk is... Creative venting(?)
