Ask HN: What skills does a senior Node/React full-stack developer need to have?
I'm learning full-stack webdev, and I feel like I'm getting pretty good at it, but since I'm doing it on my own and without any industry experience, I'd really love to hear some advice/guidance on what it takes to be a senior dev, so I would know which knowledge gaps do I need to fill.
If you can share a list of skills, or point me to some awesome portfolios/resumes I can use as an example to strive for, that would be amazing.
- smt88 8y agoI would suggest separating knowledge and skills in your mind. Node and React are knowledge. You learn syntax, APIs, and some underpinnings of the server or browser. Writing maintainable code, making smart tradeoffs, collaborating with teammates, learning, and communicating are skills. Focus on practicing those skills, and you won't be stuck on any particular stack.
