I'd have assume the door handles are close to a blank/empty wall... Otherwise all I can imagine is trying to use various things in the bathroom and having to step over a waist-level leather strap running through the middle of the room while you're trying to use it. As the diagram goes at least, if you were sitting on the toilet, and then decided to have a bath, you'd be contorting yourself over the strap.
