It probably depended on the kind of BBS and the era too: in my country, on Fidonet almost everyone used his real name.
- zorked 8y agoIIRC Fidonet had a real name policy.
- wott 8y agoA bit of searching seems to indicate that it depended on each Echomail conference (== newsgroup); they had flags, and one possible flag was "real names" (== mandatory real name). Most of the echomails seem to bear it. (I could not find the document describing those flags, but they appear in echolists.)
