Is this any weirder than how a lot of companies let employees charge their personal electric vehicles for free, but won't let you expense personal gasoline?

- downrightmike 8y agoThe average cost per mile for an electric is about 8 cents, gasoline is about 16 cents. https://avt.inl.gov/sites/default/files/pdf/fsev/costs.pdf https://avt.inl.gov/sites/default/files/pdf/fsev/costs.pdf
- koala_man 8y agoNot sure what you're getting at.
- J5892 8y agoIt's a hell of a lot easier to install a charger in a parking lot than it is to install a gas station. Also, there may be perks/subsidies offered by the local government for installing EV chargers.
- koala_man 8y agoYou don't need an on-site gas station to let people expense gas. It's actually the opposite: employees generally expense things because they cannot get them on-site.

- proofbygazing 8y agoDefinitely weirder. There is well-established precedent for expensing food, which matters. Also, food is a bare-necessity for staying alive while traveling on your company's behalf, so manipulating people's options there is bound to produce blowback.
