Are you working with outdated technologies? If so I would suggest start learning new technologies, start adding simple projects to you github and writing on linedin. Seems like too much but just start one thing at a time. This way you will dramatically increase your changes of finding another remote when when necessary. But in the end of the day you also need a plan B, which is money saved and some idea of where to go in case you need to move back to the city to find a regular job.
