To be fair, the decision makers, i.e. asic architects,designers from top cop firms, most likely aren't having out at HN, it banking on public opinion here. ARM can bloody well do as it pleases with little impact on business
Where RISC-V does have a chance is in getting adopted by a company with a long term Outlook and huge shipments. Ideal customer is Samsung, who use arm in everything from DRAM/NAND to smartphones. If they can prove it commercially on one product line, maybe SD cards, they can shake it to others over there next decade.
