Horrid idea. We have friends who live near the sign, which is just an old real estate advert that originally said 'hollywoodland' to encourage development.
It's a nice hilly neighborhood and the sign is best seen from down below not up close. An aerial tramway would be better to some non residential location nearby where they can see the sign and views of LA IMO
- ubernostrum 8y agoAre your friends among the ones who plant false info into maps databases to try to trick tourists? (this is a thing that has actually happened, along with residents trying to hire private "security" to prevent people entering public roads in the area, and other tactics)
- olivermarks 8y agoNo, I think they like the sign a lot. They keep chickens, not what you'd expect right below that sign! They are always giving tourists water in the summer, like a lot of other neighbors
- azernik 8y agoChickens in the park at that sign actually does not surprise me at all ^_^ Where in that area do they live? Most of the complaints I've heard about are from Beachwood Canyon residents (right next to that access gate in particular).
- olivermarks 8y agoDown from sign and to the left a bit in the windy roads, address not with me now
- khazhou 8y ago> the sign, which is just an old real estate advert that originally said 'hollywoodland' to encourage development. Oddly dismissive. It's iconic, and no less so because it was originally a real estate advertisement.
- astrodust 8y agoIt's ironic that what's essentially a billboard would get turned into an icon. It's also kind of sad that Hollywood has so little in the way of interesting landmarks that a billboard is how it's represented.
