- tyleo 8y agoExotic websites like this always remind me of geocities and the early days of the Internet.
- mcnesium 8y agoWhy? Because it does not look like todays medium.com blogs or default-skinned github.io pages? Twitter or Facebook posts? Having indiviually looking web sites is the internet. Sadly, most people today don't even actually use the internet anymore.
- robotsonic 8y agoI think part of it is not just the look, but also the content. The 'old' internet wasn't as concerned with how to monetize content, it was just people sharing stuff they like/dislike. Certainly, that still exists, but you can imagine BuzzFeed et al. turning this content into "10 real foods that will disgust you, number 7 will blow your mind".
- mcnesium 8y agoIt feels awkward that it is called "exotic". This exposes the common understanding of todays web as a set of services, that everyone is supposed and used to consume, while anything out of that scope is not regarded as normal. This is the opposite of what it should be.
- smacktoward 8y agoProbably because this one is from "the early days of the Internet." James Lileks has been writing at lileks.com since 1997. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Lileks#Website https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Lileks#Website
