Why is this post sinking? Is someone at HN trying to censor this too like the Tesla stuff?
It has more upvotes in less time than any other post on the front page. The top post has 35 upvotes in 2 hours.
This post is falling off the front page with 81 upvotes in less than an hour.
This is completely sketch.
- rasengan 8y agoAddition: why would a truthful fact be downvoted?
- ben0x539 8y agoConsider that there's a near-limitless amount of truthful facts that can be posted in any given comment thread. You need more criteria than just accuracy to consider whether any given post should be given prominent placement among other comments. I empathize with your frustration but I believe a convincing argument against downvotes needs to engage along more dimensions than this particular one.
- DanBC 8y agoYou've added opinion to the fact - "is someone at HN" etc.
- musage 8y agoPeople had their flagging privileges removed before, in cases "someone at HN" actually gave a fuck. If you give people the tools to flag this and let them abuse it, you're complicit, and you cant't effectively support browshirts and then cry about being called a meanie. It's like doing a murder and then complaining about being called an asshole. Which is not a nice thing to do, in a vacuum, but this is not a vacuum, and it's hardly the first time either.

- dang 8y agoThere have been huge threads about this story in the last few days. https://hn.algolia.com/?query=Zwiebelfreunde%20points%3E30&sort=byDate&dateRange=all&type=story&storyText=false&prefix=false&page=0 https://hn.algolia.com/?query=Zwiebelfreunde%20points%3E30&s... When a story is ongoing, moderators downweight follow-ups unless and until they contain significant new information. Otherwise the discussions tend to be repetitive, reacting only to the original event which has already been discussed, and more likely to attract unsubstantive and flamewar-style comments, as well as complaints from other users about the same story reappearing too many times. This approach is something we figured out after the Great Snowden Avalanche of 2013, and it has turned out to be a good balance that serves HN well.
