That's very interesting. One of my current peeves is watching for the next turnoff with various GPS apps. I have to rotate my whole head down to see, since my phone is currently mounted to my motorcycle handlebars[1], and the turn icons are usually small and vague. The reality is that I want detailed maps for route planning and local exploration, but very simple maps for the actual navigation part.
