How was cost comparison? Did you save anything significant going with this line over a SmartTV? My future solution is to simply not plug the SmartTV into the network and if it means paying the same why not?
- VLM 8y agoMy dumb TV boots up from power button to pix in about 2 to 3 seconds. My MiL's smart TV takes about 20-30 seconds from flipping the power strip on. So "smart" costs about ten times latency in two anecdotes of data. My MiL is very jealous of my dumb TV, no one likes a slow UI. My MiL doesn't have wifi internet; possibly the TV wastes a lot of time at boot trying to connect as punishment for people who don't allow it to spy, I don't know.

- nfoz 8y agoI had a strong preference for a "dumb tv" and I would have paid slightly more for that, specifically so that the TV and its controls don't try to hassle me. That being said, IIRC my TV was ~$900, and at the time the most equivalent consumer smart TV was ~1050. So I figured that I saved a bit of money. But there wasn't exactly feature parity even at that price point (e.g. the Consumer tv had another HDMI input or two).
