Bitcoin is an excellent proof of concept for blockchains but I sold mine some time ago because of the ethical issue I have with Bitcoin mining consuming so much power. Some of the newer coins are much more efficient in terms of consuming power. To refer to cryptocurrencies in general as a fad though is very naive and sounds more like central bank desperation.
