Who Really Stands to Win from Universal Basic Income?
- wor-ku 8y agoI don't think this could ever work. Equality of outcome seems to be a hot topic, but we can't treat everyone 'the same', because everyone is different.
- eesmith 8y agoSo we shouldn't treat voters the same - get rid of 'one person, one vote'? And do you disagree with the statement "All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law."? In countries with single-payer health care, people in essence receive the same coverage policy, even though they all have different needs. All UBI does is say that everyone gets a certain amount of money at regular intervals. Everyone from Gates to the beggar on the street corner. It doesn't mean they have to be treated the same in all respects.
- shams93 8y agoIf it’s ridiculously limited like 8k a year it would hardly be helpful when rent is $2700 a month
- eesmith 8y agoIt's about 50% higher, but still not large. From the article: > In the U.S., its supporters generally propose a figure somewhere around a thousand dollars a month: enough to live on—somewhere in America, at least—but not nearly enough to live on well. The idea is not that everyone could live wherever they want, only that they can have a basic income where they can live somewhere. It may mean, for example, that more people move to, or stay in, rural/small town area, and thus reduce the population pressure in the big cities as fewer people move there for jobs.
