- mansilladev 8y agoAh, yes. I call that my "metered tertiary" because my "unlimited plan" isn't unlimited when it comes to tethering.
- Klathmon 8y agoLook into modifying the TTL of your TCP requests. IIRC that's how at least one wireless ISP measures hotspot data different than from-phone data.
- cm2187 8y agoInteresting. Is there any other way? Like is there a flag in wireless data that tags tethered traffic? I was always curious of how an ISP can tell.
- mathieuh 8y agoThey could look for requests to things like Windows/MacOS update servers, URLs that phones will never be accessing basically.
- cm2187 8y agoBut that would allow them to tell that tethering is being used, not to measure the traffic to make it contribute to a cap.
- Klathmon 8y agoOn some Android devices they have the OS report it separately which is one reason they hate the ability for you to root your own device.
- lozaning 8y agoBack in my Nexus 5 days while on t-mobile all you had to do was tell the phone to use the same gateway IP for tethered traffic as mobile traffic. Quick ADB command later unlimited tethering.
- cat199 8y ago> Look into modifying the TTL of your TCP requests. so what, increment by 1?
- dalore 8y agoSame but it's very easy to bypass. Just install a proxy on your phone and set your system proxy to the phone in your OS. Then all the connections look like it comes from your phone as the PC is using the phone as a http proxy.
- kilroy123 8y agoYup, I do the same. I always also carry a big portable battery just in case. https://www.amazon.com/Omnicharge-Portable-Power-Bank-connectors/dp/B01NBJX99D https://www.amazon.com/Omnicharge-Portable-Power-Bank-connec...
- murukesh_s 8y agoYa same here, With my two additional power banks, which costed 20$ each, I am looking at 2 days of backup. And there is unlimited data (5gb/day/highspeed) that is enough for most uses. For additional usage if any, like a big Xcode update I can top up the data plan with additional 5gb for few dollars.
