Also: Add attic insulation, which is surprisingly uncommon in older Bay Area houses! Adding insulation is particularly cheap compared to the actual cost of the house, and is something one doesn’t necessarily need to hire a contractor for.
- rconti 8y agoOur bay area home has tremendous southern exposure. Thankfully the attic is insulated, but I really wish we had gables so it would be easier to install a whole house fan. The house itself rarely breaks 80 but I have to use fans in the windows to cool it off at night; I can only imagine how much cooler the house would be if it wasn't (say) 120f in the attic.
