This just seems like a huge waste of money for Apple. Smartphones need maps, I get that, but a huge chunk of Apple's customers still use Google maps anyway. Why not draw up an SLA with Google and just use them? There's the privacy angle, but Apple rarely mentions that with regards to maps and, come on, look around, average Joe just ... doesn't ... care... I'm glad they're wasting the money, though. I like options. And they have the money...
