I don't accept the thesis that Apple locks third-parties out of things like CarPlay out of a desire to lock their users into more of Apple's services. I think it has more to do with wanting to do things right and ensure a consistent user experience. (I'll admit that it's sometimes hard to square this viewpoint with the level of brokenness they ship)
