Could this “grease” be what we thought to be dark matter? Ie. explaining the “missing” mass of the universe

  No. We know it's grease because it absorbs certain wavelengths of light, unlike dark matter, which doesn't interact with light. Besides, it's just tiny part of the galaxy (1E37 kg vs >1E42 kg).
