At what point did the president of the united states and both branches of congress stop being the "top" and at what point did the majority of the population start being "elites"
- belorn 8y agoWhile the president is at the military top, a common view is that there exist an ruling class or political elite that holds power within political parties through generations. Politicians may come and go but the same families holds influence. Wikipedia has an article called Elite theory (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite_theory https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite_theory) which describe this, and the key trait is that those people hold power that is independent of democratic elections. Is this theory true or false? I don't personally have a definitive opinion but I think it is important to understand the argument when people are talking about the cultural elites.
- narag 8y agoSo for you Trump represent the cultural elite? That explains a lot.
- Avshalom 8y agoNo I believe the entire framing is invalid because the majority cannot by definition be the elite and the federal government cannot not be the elite.
