Ask HN: How do you decide skills to specialize, from a freelance perspective?

For me, it is easier to decide what to learn from a interest-in-topic and fun view point. But I don't know how to pick one topic/skill (or maybe 2 or 3) purely from a money making perspective. Is there any trick you use to pick something that is at least somewhat interesting and monetarily rewarding?
