Ask HN: Why won't HN accounts merge with OpenID?

HN supports login via OpenID, I like that. Unfortunately I created a dedicated HN account years ago. Now, when signing in with OpenID I get asked if I want to merge my existing HN account as described in the clickpass docs[1]. Unfortunately HN seems to not have implemented this feature - it will leave you stranded on the message "Unknown."[2] I know it's not nice to ask features on a free service, but if you implement an open protocoll, please make sure to fully implement it. 1. http://www.clickpass.com/docs/reference-merging-accounts 2. http://news.ycombinator.com/openid_merge
