Consumer Reports purchased Consumerist from Gawker in late 2008, and migrated off of Gawker's infra in 2009. They used to make frequent mention of the association with Consumer Reports back then, but perhaps stopped after a few years? I worked on a piece of their migration from Gawker's custom platform to Movable Type, although they switched to WordPress a few years after that, as Movable Type lost momentum in the US.
