Recycling glass is essentially pointless. It costs the same amount of energy to recycle glass (possibly even more, due to transport) as it does to just make new glass, and we're never going to run out of sand.
- fake-name 8y agoIt's actually much cheaper to recycle then make from fresh due to dramatically lower energy costs.
- FooBarWidget 8y agoThe raw materials for making new glass also need to be transported. Why is transporting raw materials better for the environment than transporting existing glass?
- dflock 8y agoWe actually _are_ running out of sand, btw.
- solatic 8y agoPristine, beach-quality sand in the right, profitable resort areas and industrial-quality sand harvested off somewhere where it's freezing cold are very different animals.
