As someone living in a mid sized city, please do not wish this on anyone. I enjoy my low tax, low welfare state. I'd much rather give extra amount to my church

As someone living in a mid sized city, please do not wish this on anyone. I enjoy my low tax, low welfare state. I'd much rather give extra amount to my church and the animal shelter than give it to the government so they can waste it away on new governments building that are'nt needed
- FussyZeus 8y agoI've come to realize that it's really only America and Great Britain that assume the leaders that they have chosen via elections are completely incompetent to man the station they have chosen them to man. This is a very interesting idea. Why did you elect them then? I also find it interesting that we have an abysmally low participation rate in local elections, considering how much people bitch about local governments not being able to get anything done well. And finally despite having so many allegedly incompetent people manning so many critical local offices, the country by and large seems to function alright, which is perhaps the strangest part of all.
- haskellandchill 8y agoYes I would quite like to leave this country, but what other would have me? It's been a hard life making it to 32 and I'm getting tired. I could use a little lite socialism to feel ok if my hands again fail me. As for the low participation rate, well it is quite hard to vote in America. I always try, but it is very tricky. The incompetence can be explained by the low salaries for the offices, and we save some of our lowest salaries for teachers. It makes a lot of sense if you think about it, get off your ass, and then become Elon Musk.
- frockington 8y agoThen leave, America is a competitive country that probably doesn't suit everyone. With that US passport you have a lot of options to move to. I don't know why you think its difficult to vote. You register when you get your drivers license and then show up to a voting place and click a button
- haskellandchill 8y agoDrivers licenses are a difficult affair. It's hard to prove you exist and deserve access to banking services also. Try it! What makes it hard is being non-traditional, for example moving frequently due to housing and economic instability. Anyway, I'd love to leave America and am researching options. Thanks.
