It was not mainstream, no one was talking about, security was a hilarious joke and you were feeling like some kind of an ultra combo hacker like those in the movies. I remember there was no router with a basic prebuild NAT "security" and you could just hack anything and almost everyone. I remember when I was a kid, I got hacked just by entering an IRC chat filled with hackers. If someone had your IP address and you had windows with netbios enabled you were a joke back in the days.
