You're projecting a narrow, contemporary artefact of how these groups happen to be organised, but "freedom to live the way I want to live" has always been a very strong meme on the right-libertarian side. Also, as norm-breaking becomes the norm, seeking to preserve the norm becomes radical. Those aggressively advocating the policies of '68 are rapidly entering the realm of (small-c) conservatism.
