Are yams ever tasty plainly roasted? Most people wouldn't enjoy eating a plain baked potato. Some salt, paprika, and butter makes a world of difference.

- whistlerbrk 8y agoPaprika on a yam? Yeah, yams are unbelievably sweet when exposed to direct fire, like candy sweet. But I'm talking about the Garnet and Japanese varieties, this might just be a less cultivated specie he found locally and just went with it.
- newnewpdro 8y agoPaprika on everything But I was referring to plain potatoes, I've never had a real Yam, my understanding is that sweet potatoes are not the same thing.
- cirgue 8y agoNo, they aren’t. Sweet potatoes are extremely flavorful when roasted by themselves, yams not so much.
- _carl_jung 8y agoLike the other reply to this comment, I think you're referring to sweet potatoes. As an aside, you're right about baked/roasted sweet potatoes. Their GI when baked is in the mid 90s!
- starpilot 8y agoActually, yes. They're sold hot & fresh as street food in South Korea: http://crazykoreancooking.com/foodandculture/Koreas%20Love%20Affair%20with%20Sweet%20Potatoes http://crazykoreancooking.com/foodandculture/Koreas%20Love%2...
- mrob 8y agoThose are sweet potatoes, which are sometimes called yams in America, but not in Australia where Primitive Technology is based.
