Agreed, autonomous vehicles might offer some benefits inclding road safety in the very long run, however we could do so much better right now if laws were enforced / people were actually following them or just care. The system is designed with plenty of buffer in it, it is just the nature of most drivers to disregard speeding limtis and safe trailing distances. As a consequence imo it is misguided to measure AVs against average drivers, because more average drivers on the road is exactly what I would rather not have.
