I think in America there is a huge misconception on what 'hungry' actually is/feels like.
People think that if you don't stuff your kid 3 times a day with massive quantities of food, they will fade away over night. It's very easy to refuse food and be picky when you are not truly hungry.
My personal rule of thumb is if my least favorite food doesn't sound edible, I don't actually need to eat.
- neutronicus 8y agoI've got a nephew-to-be in Israel who's a really picky eater, and his parents resort to bribing him sugar to get him to eat healthier stuff. But, like, the kid is demonstrably underweight for his age, shorter than all his classmates, etc. So I don't know if just starving him is the right call either. Some people (you) get lucky and don't have to make the decision, but sometimes it actually is hard to get kids to eat.
