The problem with sugar is that there's no daily recommended value... because that value would be 0.
A "safe value" for an adult would probably be up to 40g. A can of soda has exactly that amount.
Now imagine a kid eating cereal, snacks, then soda... can probably end up having 160g of sugar in a day, or about 38 teaspoons.
